Hello blockers, my name is Constantinos Kindynis

I'm doing an experiment on Winogradsky column. In this column, I used a quantity of sediment and seawater from the beach Anauros which is a region in the southwest of Volos. The components of the experiment was an amount of sea water, one egg and a paper pieces.

1st DAY
During the first day of our experiment, the column was sealed and placed in a bright place with relatively small temperature changes.

 5 Week

After 5 weeks the color of the style is become pink

 Hello everyone,

after the 10th day of our experiment, the statue of sediment has gradually obtained in her total length a total black color (image 1). Simultaneously, the statue of water was colored with black color. The conditions ,which have dominated in this column, is anaerobic and the black color is caused by the presence of FeS (Hydrogen sulfide). This chemical compound is created by the counteraction of ferrum(Fe) and selfur( S).As a result there is a production of  FeS (Hydrogen sulfide).

After a period of time and between the 15th and 20th day of our experiment, the statue of water has started to obtain a pink color. Gradually, the first centimeters of sediment surface have also acquired a pink color (Image 2). The quantity of cellulose, which added up, has led to the rapidly production of microorganisms and also has consumed the quantity of oxygen (O2)  firstly in water column and after that in the sediment surface. In this point, we have noticed that the pink color declares the anaerobic conditions of the column. It is true that, only microorganisms which have the capacity to grow up in anaerobic conditions can develop in this environment and to cause a fermentation of organic matter. The anaerobic respiration is a process in which organic substrates have fully degrade emissions of CO2. At image 3 is presented at the water surface the plates of calcium (Ca) which have already referred to our older post.
