Volos_Group 9_Day 1-9_Light

Our names are Ilianna Kaltsatou and Ioanna Kalogiri and we are undergraduate students Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment, University of Thessaly, Volos, Greece.
I'm presenting my results from the Winogradsky column experiment that was conducted in 21/03/2016 at Anauros beach (Volos) since today 29/3/2016.

From the first day of the experiment, it is observed that water is not turbid and it has a light yellow colour. After 3 days, the water is quite turbid with bubbles to the surface and in the space between the sand and the water created a white line. Today the water level went up considerably and has more bubbles and the sand took a dark / black colour.

2 comments:

  1. Any suggestions what the bubbles might be? Why the water has turned out turbid?

  2. The bubbles and the water has turned out turbid might be from FeS and H2S, which is produced by anaerobic microorganisms.
