A lot of time
has passed since our last observation of the column and many differences can be
observed.
In the first zone, we can appreciate a
decrease in the white algae population. We think this occurred due to the lack of
resources to sustain the previous amount.
The S1 and S2 zones have remained stable and the
only significant change is that its colours have become more intense. Seeing the results, our hypothesis that this colour is produced by green sulphur bacteria grows stronger
However, the S3 zone has lost its distinctive orange
colouring, possibly due to the fact that the oxygen that was trapped has been
released or consumed. Another possibility is that the increase in the intensity
of the sun’s rays at this time of year was responsible, killing off the
bacteria.
