Winogradsky column (team 12 kokkali_kolaiti) University of Thessaly_ Department of ichthyology & aquatic environment

Hello to everyone,
In Greece we say "better late, than never" and this motto our team has followed. After more than two months of  experiment, 14 photos in total, and some dramatic changes in the color and odour of our  Winogradsky column, we are ready to publish and share with you fellows our observations.Just to remind you that zero day for the experiment was 21/03/2016, the sampling was done in Anauros beach near the port of Volos.

Just after 4 days the column has started changing color

11 days after a white cloud has been created just above the solid part and the water is blurred
In this photo the white cloud is more visible ;-)

In the solid part some signs of white areas were observed

23 days after the color of the liquid part has started becoming brownish and the solid part darker

38 days after the beginning of the experiment the color has changed dramatically. The liquid part is more or less pinky with a dark red cloud just above the solid part. The solid part is half dark brown to red with some white spots, and half very dark brown. The odour is very intense as a result of H2S emissions.

49 days after the color becomes darker and darker

57 days after the color of the liquid part is among brown and red with a milky                                                  cloud above the solid part and some white dots in it

68 days after the bottle is more or less in the same condition

84 days after the liquid part is dark red with some pinky area, the solid part is
the half very dark brown to black and the other half has some white-pink dots.

86 days after the liquid part is brown to red, the solid part is dark brown to black, and
the milky cloud has become smaller but still exists between the two phases
