AQUATIC MICROORGANISMS
WEEK: 3rd
LEFT: Deinised water
RIGHT: Lake
water
As
we can notice there are major differences from 2nd week to 3rd
.Firstly, the water’s color has changed in both columns from brighter to
darker. This is due to bacterial growth which takes place in both columns. We
also notice some green areas in the water zone indicating the existence of
phytoplakton. On the top of both columns, there is a growing biofilm,
especially in 2nd column
which contains lake water. We also notice that the sediment’s colour has become
darker in both columns as a result of reduced oxygen which is essential for
aerobic bacteria. A noticeable difference between our columns, is that there
are orange areas in the sediment of the left column. The orange colour comes
from purple nonsulfur bacteria, which need a carbon source to thrive.
