Rio San Pedro sediment + 0.5g FeSO4 + filter paper
Hello everyone, we are a group of 3 people from the University of Cádiz, Spain. We used a bottle of 1.5L and filled them with of sediment taken from Rio San Pedro. Then we added 0.5 g of FeSO4, water and filter paper. We mixed it and let the column in the dark.
The column shows uniform colour and the water on the surface.
Day 14 – Some changes appear
The column shows some black stains because of the FeS. This component appears when the sulphate-reducing bacteria use the FeSO4 for their metabolism, turning it into FeS.
Apparently, there are only microorganisms because we can’t see any living being.
We'll return when something changes!
Some pictures would be nice to compare.
