Cádiz A2, WINOGRADSKY , BIOTECH 1 MONTH SUMMARY

Hi everybody.. the first two weeks after the last time we posted, the coulmn didn't experiment any observable changes, however we are going to upload some photos of its starting situation of this post:

Date: March 22th

(BOTH SIDES: SUN EXPOSED AND NON SUN EXPOSED RESPECTIVELY)

After these rainy days we had, the sun appeared and another group member took the bottle.
At this time, the column begins to change its aspect though with lack of differences.

Image date: March 26th

March 31th: Water has turned into an intense orange. On the sun exposed side, the black spots keeps in while on the non exposed part, these spots have been replaced for gray and black intense ones.

April 3rd: It can be seen some filaments on the surface of the ground, being so much big as we advance from the bottom to the top of this sediment.

April 6th: Water has turned into a clear brown and some green algae have grown on the ground surface.

April 7th: Seawoods have grown up and some of them have sepparated from the ground surface which has turned into a pale red. It could be due to a kind of algae who have high concentrations of B-carotenes to protect agains the intense light.

April 9th: Water and ground has turned into a pale green on the sun exposed side. Nevertheless, on the non sun exposed side, the sediment has some red colors.

  1. Hi, why do you say not many things have changed?
You have green algae growing at the water surface, cyanobacteria growing further below, oxidised iron compounds etc...
It would be nice to look at these on the microscope.
