Welcome to the Winogradsky column lab page! Students from the Departments of Biological Applications and Technology, University of Ioannina and Icthyology and Aquatic Environment, University of Thessaly, Greece and the Microbiology course, Faculty of Sciences, University of Cádiz, Spain, discuss their findings on Winogradsky columns they constructed!

Bienvenidos a la pagina web de los Winobloggers! Aquí los estudiantes y profesores de dos departamentos griegos, el Departamento de Aplicaciones y Tecnologías Biológicas de la Universidad de Ioannina y el Departmento de Agricultura, Ictiología y Sistemas Acuáticos de la Universidad de Thessalia, junto con los estudiantes de Microbiología de la Facultad de Ciencias en la Universidad de Cádiz, se reúnen para observar, comentar, preguntar y responder a preguntas relacionadas con nuestro experimento, la columna Winogradsky.

Volos_Group 23_Day 11_Light

Our names are Politis Konstantinos and Savva Eygenios and we are undergratuate students from Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment,University of Thessaly,Volos,Greece.
This is the result of our experiment  that was conducted  in 21/3/2016 at Anauros beach.

The ingredients of our experiment are:

  • 1 egg 
  • 1 plastic bottle
  • mud from the beach
  • pieces of newspaper
  • sea water
The 2/3 of our bottle contain mud mixed with one egg and some pieces of newspaper.The rest of the bottle is filled with sea water.


1/04/2016 

This is the result of our experiment after 11 days.The water level is higher than the first 10 days and the colour  is more white.Also,we can see a thick white surface that was created the last 2 days.

  These photos below are the result of our experiment after 20 days.The water level is a little bit higher compared with the water level in the first 10 days.Today,(20th day) we can see that the colour of water is darker and our bottle has created a much more thicker surface layer.
